About our school

The school is situated in the beautiful, rural setting of Samford Valley, and yet is still located in close proximity to Brisbane CBD; a vibrant, multicultural, cosmopolitan city. The beautiful sandy beaches of the Sunshine Coast are only one and a half hours to the north and the beaches of the Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales are one to two hours to the south. The school is situated on 20 acres of forested land along Samford Creek.

The school is 36 years old and is a strong and dynamic educational facility providing an authentic Steiner Education to students from Pre-Prep through to Class 12 with double streams in 2024 in Classes 1 to 7. Student numbers are over 560 and growing, with a staff strength of over 100. Our curriculum is based on the Australian Steiner School Curriculum Framework and is uncompromised right to the end of High School; including senior classes completing the NZ Steiner School Certificate (an internationally recognised secondary qualification). We have a vibrant staff combining youth and experience and a stable organisational structure. The College of Teachers sits at the heart of the structure and advises a Senior Leadership Team, comprising of representatives of the different areas of the school, and a School Director who is accountable to a governance Board.

Current Positions

Pianist
Samford Valley Steiner School seeks a Eurythmy Pianist to carry out the important pedagogical task of bringing Eurythmy to the students of Samford Valley Steiner School.

This is 0.33 FTE annually 15.6 hours per week Term Time. The days are flexible dependent on the successful candidate’s availability and school timetable.

The successful candidate will be an experienced pianist, who can sight read with ease, as well as provide simple improvisation to eurythmy movements. The applicant will collaborate with our current eurythmy teachers to provide music accompaniment to the eurythmy curriculum for children from Kindergarten through to Class 12. Previous experience with Eurythmy accompaniment is not necessary.

Learning Support Teacher 

Samford Valley Steiner School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Learning Support Teacher to join our team. This role plays a crucial role in supporting students with additional needs, such as emotional, behavioural, and social needs, fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that is underpinned by Steiner pedagogy. This is an ongoing 0.8 FTE (4 days per week) position commencing in Term 2, 2024.

 Role Overview: 
As a Learning Support Teacher, you will work closely with the Learning Enrichment Team, Teachers and Teacher Aides to provide academic support for students on a one-on-one or small group basis. Your compassionate guidance and expertise will help teachers and teacher aides to support students to thrive academically and emotionally, while also collaborating with parents to ensure their success.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted academic support to students with additional needs in classes 4 to 8.
  • Collaborate with the Learning Enrichment Coordinator, teachers and parents to meet the needs of students with additional needs (this may require consultation with outside support).
  • Research, develop or tailor programs to support students with literacy and numeracy needs.
  • Facilitate and provide Professional Development for Teacher Aides, to support them to implement programs to meet student’s academic, social/emotional needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to create either small group or individual programs to facilitate student’s academic needs.
  • Contribute to the National Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) process, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.

OSHC Lead Educator   
Samford Valley Steiner School is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a qualified Outside School Hours Care Lead Educator to join our school. The OSHC Lead Educator will be offered at 25 hour a week contract, with the possibility of more hours in the future.  

 Role Overview: 
The Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) Lead Educator is responsible in assisting the OSHC Coordinator with managing the effective and efficient operation, including pedagogy, enrolments, staffing, finances, administration and compliance, of the Outside School Hours Care Service in accordance with the policies, directions and delegations of the School Director of Samford Valley Steiner School.   

 Hours of Duty  
Service Hours are Monday to Friday   

  • Before School Care: 6.30 am to 8.30am  
  • After School Care: 2.30pm to 6.00pm  
  • Vacation Care: 6.30am to 6.00pm  

 The OSHC Lead Educator role will consist of but not be limited to the following tasks: 
Ensure when in charge that all administrative needs of the service are met in a timely and effective manner. 

  • Ensure compliance with all Government regulations, Legislation and Standards.  
  • Manage OSHC Assistants ensuring there are suitably qualified staff numbers for every session of operation in accordance with the National Quality Framework for OSHC educator to child ratios.  
  • Ensure that all communications with families are met in a timely and professional manner  
  • Strengthen parent and community confidence in the school by always acting professionally with due consideration and awareness of issues of sensitivity and confidentiality.  
  • Safety is a priority for all SVSS staff.  All staff employed in any capacity by SVSS are expected to understand and effectively apply safety policies and practices as relevant to their role  
  • Ensure the good physical and mental health and safety of students using the service through maintaining a thorough understanding of School policies and procedures (including the Social Health and Well Being Policy), as well as knowledge of and compliance with emergency and accident procedures, undertaking all actions necessary and holding a conscious awareness of real and potential safety concerns.  
  • Ensure that your own training and development is appropriate to fulfill your role.  

 Qualifications 
Essential qualifications:   

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Early Childhood Education.   
  • Hold or willing to obtain Blue Card (working with Children Check).     

Desirable:    

  • Restorative Practice Training    
  • Experience working with students with additional needs.    
  • First Aid training    
  • Training and/or experience in Steiner Education   
  • Experience in programming.  
  • Experience using Qikkids

Casual Grounds Person
Samford Valley Steiner School (SVSS) is looking for casual staff to assist with our grounds and maintenance work during peak times at the school. This will primarily be during school holidays and around major events and festivals.

  • Applicants must have a current paid Blue Card.
  • Shifts will be a minimum of 2 hours.
  • Experience with power tools, gardening and/or building, is needed and you must be able to work independently.

Work will be mainly outdoors, and successful applicants will need to have a good level of fitness and be capable of lifting and moving equipment and furniture around. 

Our intent is to put together a list of people and skills that we can then call upon as demand requires.
